Pope Leo XIV Prays for Texas Flood Victims and Their Families

The Holy Father also reminded the faithful to daily cultivate the seed of the Gospel in their hearts.

Pope Leo XIV on Sunday prayed for the victims and families affected by the recent flood disaster in Texas.

The Holy Father, speaking in English, expressed his “sincere condolences” to “families who have lost loved ones, in particular their daughters, who were at the summer camp, in the disaster caused by flooding of the Guadalupe river in Texas in the United States” after praying the Angelus with pilgrims gathered in St. Peter’s Square.

Queens Cyclist Completes 700-Mile Pilgrimage With Blessing From Pope Leo XIV

Victor Mooney, a Catholic inspired by Pope Francis’ five-day pilgrimage to Poland, returned home June 16 after completing a nearly 700-mile cycling journey to raise awareness about antisemitism.

Mooney visited key historical sites tied to the Holocaust, including the former Nazi concentration camps Auschwitz-Birkenau and Majdanek. As he was biking around the perimeter of Auschwitz, he noticed the barbed wire and what was left of the crematoriums, and described feeling the need to stop for a moment of reflection and pay his respects to the victims.

A legacy of faith and firsts: Catholic Daughters of the Americas make history in East Baltimore

The Catholic Daughters of the Americas Court #2257 at St. Francis Xavier in East Baltimore is not only a pillar of spiritual service but also a historic force in Black Catholic life. Earlier this year, that legacy continued as the court celebrated the 15th anniversary of its Unsung Black Catholic Woman Award.

Three women – youth honoree Varia Alston and adult recipients Nina Shipman and Kay G. Bee – joined more than 80 others honored over the past 15 years for their faith-filled service to the parish and community.

At joyful Mass, five new priests ordained for the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Washington

With a voice that carried throughout the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception, Cardinal Robert W. McElroy announced, “Today I have tidings of great joy” as he greeted the large congregation of faithful on the warm, sunlit morning of June 21 for the annual Mass of Priesthood Ordination in the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Washington.

Concelebrants included Cardinal Wilton Gregory and Cardinal Donald Wuerl, the archbishops emeritus of Washington; Auxiliary Bishops Roy Campbell Jr. and Evelio Menjivar, and more than 125 priests from the archdiocese and invited clergy.
