VATICAN CITY (CNS) — Meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, Pope Leo XIV reiterated his willingness to host representatives of Russia and Ukraine at the Vatican for peace negotiations.
“During the cordial conversation, the importance of dialogue as the preferred means of ending hostilities was reaffirmed,” the Vatican press office said in a communique released after the meeting.

When Father Gerald Kleba was pastor of the former St. Bridget of Erin Parish in north St. Louis, he celebrated a Mass in June to honor all the graduates in the parish.
A woman asked him if that would include the children who graduated kindergarten.
“I thought, ‘Oh, come on, everyone graduates kindergarten,’” Father Kleba said. “And she said, ‘Do you know how much my ancestors, our ancestors, suffered and got tarred and feathered because they learned how to read?’”

Nearly 100 years ago, Pope Pius XI issued an encyclical called “Miserentissimus Redemptor,” addressing the Act of Reparation as a powerful spiritual response to the love and mercy of the Sacred Heart of Jesus.
In it, he encouraged Catholics to offer acts of reparation for sins committed against the Heart of Christ.

Catholics are responding with prayers and aid after record-breaking flash floods in central Texas devastated communities along the area’s rivers and killed at least 27 people.
The flash flooding began in the early hours of July 4. Heavy rainfall filled the creeks that emptied into the several rivers that wind through the normally arid hills known as the Texas Hill Country, located north and west of San Antonio and Austin.
