South Korean bishops offer prayers after Halloween stampede kills over 150 people

Catholic News Service

SEOUL, South Korea (CNS)—Catholic bishops in South Korea expressed sorrow and offered prayers after more than 150 people died in a stampede during Halloween celebrations in Seoul. They also called for a detailed investigation to identify the cause of the incident.

Officials are concerned that the death toll could rise because at least 33 people remain in critical condition, reported ucanews.com.

Parade to kick off Nov. 5 Black Saints Celebration

The 2022 Black Saints Celebration, “Answering the Call to Be a Servant Leader,” will take to the streets of the Ninth Ward on Saturday, Nov. 5.

The event’s traditional Parade of Black Saints will kick off the event, with participants asked to line up at Bunny Friend Playground, 1903 Desire St. in New Orleans, beginning at 9:30 a.m. The parade will start at 11 a.m.

NEW YORK – When Deacon Arthur Miller reflects on the murder of Emmett Till in 1955 he’s convinced that at least one percent of the Money, Mississippi, community knew that it was wrong, but that none of those one percent had the courage to speak out.

Villanova to Welcome Bryan Massingale, Unveil Augustine Painting at Black Catholic History Month Celebration

VILLANOVA, Pa.—As part of the celebration of Black Catholic History Month, Villanova University will welcome the Rev. Bryan Massingale, STD, one of the most distinguished voices in theological and social ethics, to deliver the 2022 Mother Mary Lange Lecture in Black Catholic Studies, at 7 p.m., Thursday, Nov. 3, in the John and Joan Mullen Center for the Performing Arts’ Topper Theatre. Following the lecture, University officials and the Dallas-based artist Vernon Adams will unveil the latter’s original 48 x 48 painting of St. Augustine as an African man. The portrait, titled An Unlikely Aquilegia: North African Saint of Hippo, was commissioned by the Office of the President.
