Black History Month Started in the Archdiocese with a Mass at St. Joseph and St. Boniface Church

On February 2, the Black Catholic community of the Archdiocese of New York celebrated Black History Month at St. Joseph and St. Boniface Church in Spring Valley with the first Mass of Black History Month, which also honored National Day of Prayer for the African American and African Family.

First-ever diocesan Black History Month Mass celebrated

Deviating from the traditional music often heard during the weekly televised Mass from Ss. Simon and Jude Cathedral, in Phoenix, the Umoja Gospel Youth Choir from St. Josephine Bakhita Mission Parish led attendees and viewers in worship, singing music derived from African-American spirituals as part of the Diocese of Phoenix’s first-ever celebration Black History Month Mass celebrated on Feb. 9.

Archbishop Pérez calls for prayer after medical jet crash in Philadelphia
