NBCC President, Bishop Roy E. Campbell, Jr., publishes a statement on the passing of Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI

January 3, 2023 | Bishop Roy E. Campbell, Jr.

On behalf of myself, the Staff, Board of Trustees, and members of the National Black Catholic Congress, we pray that you are enjoying a Blessed and Holy Christmas Season, and are looking forward to a Happy, Holy, and Prosperous New Year!

In this time of traditional giving, we remember the One who gives us life and gave Himself to us in our humanity, so that our lives can be restored to share in the eternal life of God, our Lord Jesus Christ.

In this Christmas season, we also pray for the peaceful repose of the soul of Benedict XVI, Pope Emeritus, in the eternal life of God. As we remember his loving defense of our faith, religious beliefs, theological insights, lovingly accepting all and helping all in this life; we now pray for Benedict XVI, Pope Emeritus:

O God, faithful rewarder of souls,

Grant that your departed servant Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI,

Whom you made successor of Peter

And shepherd of your Church,

May happily enjoy for ever in your presence in heaven

The mysteries of your grace and compassion,

Which he faithfully ministered on earth.

We ask this through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, God, for ever and ever. Amen!

Most Reverend Roy E. Campbell, Jr.
President
National Black Catholic Congress
