 Congress X

Draft Youth Track Outline
Event Bi-Line

Goal:

Provide age-specific and comprehensive experiences that will be meaningful and enjoyable for teenage participants and contribute to the overall success of Congress X.

Objectives:

  • Provide relevant and empowering enrichment for young people, youth ministers and catechists

  • Provide occasions for safe and structured community-building and fun

  • Model best practices for effective youth ministry and catechesis with 21st Century Black youth

  • Set new standards for youth ministry and catechesis to, with, by and for Black Catholic youth

3 Mega Sessions
(All facilitated by Fr. Efiri Matthias, MSP - Marissa Auguster and Jason Miguel, MC's)

1. "Showing Some Love And Communion" (Thursday Evening after the Congress Eucharist)

Just as Communion is a sign of God's love in the real Body and Blood of Christ, it is also a call for us to live in unity and love. This experience will issue a mandate for all young Black Catholics to be sensitive and loving toward brothers and sisters far and near. The focuses will be respect for elders, solidarity with people in afflicted African nations and respect for all other N.B.C. Congress attendees. The session ends with a social that will include an ice-breaker, refreshments and dancing.

2. "Called Back to Our Confirmation Commitments" (Friday afternoon immediately after lunch)

The Sacrament of Confirmation is more than just a one-time ceremony for Black Catholic Youth; it is a lifestyle. Participants in this mega-session will experience lively song, word, drama and rituals that review the Gifts of the Holy Spirit, and challenge the assembly to rely upon these in the daily endeavor to live as true Disciples of Jesus Christ.

3. "We Sin. We Reconcile. We Heal." (Saturday afternoon after lunch)

This mega-session is a shared experience involving participants in the Youth and Young Adult Tracks of the N. B. C. Congress. Real and moving stories, issues, testimonies, ritual and song will help the assembly to understand the evil nature of sin, its disruptive effects on humanity and God's endless mercy in spite of it all. This session will also serve as a primer to prepare each young participant to receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation on an individual basis during the Congress.
