IN THE NEWS
Congress X - Buffalo, New York - July 12-15, 2007

What in the world are we going to Buffalo for??? Don't they still have SNOW in July? What in the world is there to DO in Buffalo????

BUFFALO, NEW YORK:

  • ACCESSIBLE by major airlines, bus, train and highways. 15 minute ride to the airport from downtown; downtown Amtrak and Greyhound lines.
  • AFFORDABLE! Hotels and transportations costs are quite reasonable. Free light rail transit route connecting hotels.
  • Within a 500 mile radius of over 50% of the US population!
  • Less than one hr. by plane to NYC, Washington, DC and Toronto, Canada
  • Diocese of Buffalo is home to Niagara Falls - one of the 7 natural wonders of the world
  • Major sites on the Underground Railroad will be available for a pilgrimage and tour from the Michigan St. Baptist Church in Buffalo to the Colored Cemetery in Fort Erie, Canada to the BME (British Methodist Episcopal) Church in St. Catharine's, Ontario - across the road from where Harriet Tubman resided.
  • Home of THE BUFFALO WINGS! You think you know what they are? Wait until you try the ORIGINAL BUFFALO WINGS at The Anchor Bar!!!! Or MY favorite, barbecued chicken wings like NO other from La Nova Pizzeria.
  • Situated on Lake Erie and 20 minutes from Niagara Falls and 40 minutes from Lake Ontario. Come and enjoy water activities.
  • Soul Food, Caribbean Food, African Food, Polish Food, German Food - home to Sahlen's Hot Dogs (with skins); beef on kimmelweck; Weber's horseradish mustard, etc. Buffalo produced foods that are found NO other place will be available at one of the largest TASTE OF (Buffalo) events in the country while the Congress is in session.
  • Harlem Book Fair will be back for its 3rd year with famous authors on hand to speak about their works.
  • National Shrines, our beautifully renovated Cathedral, Basilica's and the newest Catholic Church in the City of Buffalo in over 35 years is St. Martin de Porres (African American Congregation) will be available for touring.
  • Home and burial site of the late Fr. Bede Abram, OFM, Conv.; Rick James (Musician); Congresswoman Shirley Chisolm.
  • Architectural wonders including Frank Lloyd Wright homes; Frederick Law Olmstead designed parks.

So, WHY come to Buffalo? Moreover, because we are known as the City of Good Neighbors! Though historically ethnically settled as most northeastern cities, the neighborhood atmosphere has remained.

The Congress Diocesan Implementation Team for the Diocese of Buffalo out of the Office of Black Ministry has served as hosts for many previous national and regional conferences (Joint Clergy and Sister's Conference 1994; NABCA Meetings 1990 and 2003; Congress Regional Meetings; etc.).

Want a personal reference to WHY BUFFALO? Just call me...I'll give you a list of people who were thoroughly "spoiled" while here (716) 847-8392.

O.K. now ask: How and where do I sign up??? As soon as the Congress Office prepares the Registration Forms you will be able to register for the Congress…. and reserve your hotel room. In the meantime, let us get to work preparing for YOU to visit our Great Diocese! Pre-Conference/Post Conference Tour Packages will be available in plenty of time to allow you to book your reservations accordingly.

We look forward to having you SHUFFLE OFF TO BUFFALO!
