About St. Lawrence

About St. Lawrence Seminary High SchoolSt. Lawrence Seminary High School is a college prep program in a residential setting. The school is a multicultural community and provides a safe environment and an academic curriculum that prepares young men to pursue a career and succeed at any post-secondary school.

St. Lawrence Seminary High School promotes an internalization of the Catholic Church's moral and ethical values that will motivate students' behavior long after they leave the school. St. Lawrence Seminary High School promotes growth in self-discipline, which enables the making of life choices which go beyond the self-centered norms of much of modern society. An education at St. Lawrence Seminary fosters a gradual awakening of service to and sacrifice for others. Our graduates achieve a level of human social growth that enables them to delay immediate gratification of personal desires, in exchange for a greater good.

The residency program is a vital part of the overall seminary program. It is in this area that St. Lawrence most differs from a typical high school. The purpose of this aspect of the school is to provide an environment in which the students can grow and develop in healthy ways. Therefore, much of what makes up the St. Lawrence experience is the involvement of the students in the totality of the program both within the classroom and beyond.

ADMISSION PROCESS

About St. Lawrence Seminary High SchoolSt. Lawrence Seminary recruits for graduation. It is our firm belief that a young man must be a good fit for St. Lawrence and that St. Lawrence must be right for that young man before we will offer him an application. Our process for acceptance encourages deliberate steps of inquiry and discovery on both sides.

St. Lawrence sees our initial contact with each family as an opportunity to share information about our school, to listen to the family's goals in choosing a high school, and to learn about the prospective student. The basic criteria a candidate must meet before we will consider him further include:

  • Male of high school age
  • Practicing Catholic of good moral character
  • Good grades
  • 50th percentile or higher on standardized test results
  • Free of tobacco, drug and alcohol use or involvement
  • Free from gang involvement, delinquency, and serious misbehavior

The following is also considered when accepting a candidate:

  • Is the student academically capable of succeeding and graduating?
  • Is he open to discerning God's plan for his life?
  • Can the student benefit socially and spiritually from the experience?
  • Will he contribute positively to the community?
  • Will his parent(s) make good partners with the school?

After prospective students are accepted to St. Lawrence Seminary, each family will be contacted regarding financial aid. While annual tuition remains less than $9,000 per year, the average student's family is only able to cover roughly half of that amount. From the very beginning of its long history, Saint Lawrence Seminary could not have continued its ministry without the substantial and faith-inspired generosity of individuals around the country. No young man has ever been turned away from St. Lawrence Seminary because his parents could not afford the tuition.
