Featured Article: The Society of the Divine Word: Ahead of its Time on Civil Rights - From its earliest days, the Society of the Divine Word (SVD)-the largest Catholic missionary order in the world-has welcomed people from other cultures to sit with them at the table of Christ as equals. This willingness to engage with people of other races, creeds and ethnic origins was never more evident than when the society opened the first seminary for African Americans. Not only was the seminary established decades before the Civil Rights movement of the 1950s and 1960s, but it was established in the Deep South where racial segregation ran the hottest. Divine Mercy Chaplet

The Divine Mercy Chaplet is a powerful prayer devotion that invokes our God who is rich in mercy and tender in compassion. It recalls that "fear is useless, what is needed is trust" (Mark 5:36) especially in the face of despair, destruction, disease, and death caused by sin and evil in the world.

Divine Mercy ChapletMake the Sign of the Cross with your rosary saying IN THE NAME OF THE FATHER, AND OF THE SON, AND OF THE HOLY SPIRIT, AMEN. Then recite an Our Father, a Hail Mary, and an Apostles Creed in succession.

On each single bead say… (before each decade)

ETERNAL FATHER, I OFFER YOU THE BODY, BLOOD, SOUL, AND DIVINITY OF OUR LORD JESUS CHRIST, IN ATONEMENT FOR OUR SINS, AND THE SINS OF THE WHOLE.

Then on each of the close beads say… (of each decade)

FOR THE SAKE OF HIS SORROWFUL PASSION, HAVE MERCY ON US, AND THE WHOLE WORLD.

After ALL of the beads (five decades) repeat three times…

HOLY GOD,
HOLY MIGHTY ONE,
HOLY IMMORTAL ONE,
HAVE MERCY ON US,
AND THE WHOLE WORLD.

ETERNAL GOD, IN WHOM MERCY IS ENDLESS AND THE TREASURY OF COMPASSION INEXHAUSTIBLE, LOOK KINDLY UPON US AND INCREASE YOUR MERCY IN US THAT IN DIFFICULT MOMENTS WE MAY NOT DESPAIR NOR BECOME DESPONDENT, BUT WITH THE GREATEST CONFIDENCE SUBMIT OURSELVES TO YOUR HOLY WILL WHICH IS LOVE AND MERCY ITSELF.
