Bridging our parish and diocesan communities to the continent of Africa

Bridging our parish and diocesan communities to the continent of Africa

Romans 14:17-19
For the kingdom of God is not a matter of food and drink, but of righteousness, peace, and joy in the holy Spirit; whoever serves Christ in this way is pleasing to God and approved by others. Let us then pursue what leads to peace and to building up one another.

As Black Catholics continue to build relationships with the continent of Africa, we will bring peace to communities in the United States and Africa while building up people in the joy of the Holy Spirit. As we work towards Congress X, we will work to foster a unifying, healing mutual dialogue between the continent of Africa and the African American Roman Catholic community. To succeed, we must also share with each other our stories of success, awareness building activities, educational resources and models of community events highlighting justice.

The Leadership Commission for the Principle of Africa needs your stories and examples of building solidarity between the African American Catholic community and the continent of Africa. We would like to share these stories and examples during Congress X in 2007. Your examples of activities and resources regarding Africa will serve as models for communities across the country. By sharing the best practices, we pave the way to respond to the bishops' "Call to Solidarity with Africa."

Please contribute to our collection of models, resources and stories. Please ensure that each contribution meets the following criteria:

  1. Please provide examples of events, resources or ideas that have been successful.
  2. Identify the parish, diocese, city and state
  3. Indicate your involvement. Did you organize or attend the event?
  4. Please provide copies of resources that have been developed. For events, please provide a detailed description and the planning outline.
  5. Please state how the event or resource was determined to be a success. Was the event repeated? Was the resource used more than once?

If the event or resource is a copyrighted item, please indicate and provide the copyright information.

Send your example your of a event or resource to: Ms. Kimberly Mazyck, Catholic Relief Services, 209 W. Fayette Street, Baltimore, MD 21201-3443 or e-mail her at: kmazyck@crs.org. If you have any questions, please contact Kim by phone at 410.951.7424 or by email: kmazyck@crs.org.

DEADLINE for Submission: June 1, 2006.
