"Through the Door of No Return"
Exploring Our Roots in South Africa, Senegal and The Gambia

Travel with the National Black Catholic Congress (NBCC) on a pilgrimage to South Africa, Senegal and The Gambia, October 17-31, 2005. Download the pdf travel brochure on our web site for details of the trip. Space is limited to 33 people. Sign up now!

Celebrate the History, the Roots, of African Americans, as we travel to South Africa, Senegal and The Gambia. Celebrate the courage and fortitude of A People who would not surrender to hopelessness, through years of persecution and suffering. Join The National Black Catholic Congress, as together we

Celebrate . . .

. . . The Land, and the challenge of living in a homeland of "wild beasts," as we explore Kruger National Park in South Africa.

. . . The Beginning, the Rising Up of Our People against Prejudice and Apartheid in SOWETO, the South Western Township of Johannesburg.

. . . The Heroes, as we see the former home of Desmond Tutu in SOWETO and visit the cell of Nelson Mandela on Robben Island, where he spent many years of his life imprisoned for his beliefs as a freedom fighter.

. . . The Church, as we fellowship, worship and join together for Mass at Regina Mundi Catholic Church in SOWETO.

. . . Our Roots, meeting today's descendants of the Kunta Kinte Clan in The Gambia, made famous through Alex Haley's book.

Most importantly, join me as together we walk through The Door of No Return on Goree Island, Senegal. It was through this door that our ancestors passed, in chains and shackles, with one last glimpse of their homeland before boarding ships for the frightening voyage to America and enslavement.

Your deposit of $300 will secure your place on this tour, which is limited to a total of 33 group members. The tour price is inclusive of all airfare and taxes, traveling round-trip across the Atlantic from BWI, round-trip Johannesburg to Cape Town, and also from South Africa to Senegal and The Gambia in West Africa. Also included are accommodations, all breakfasts, most dinners, several lunches, entrance fees and tips to guides, drivers and hotel staff. After you have registered, you may send additional payments on your account to MTS Travel, with final payment due on August 17, 2005.

We have come far this far by faith, and remembering our roots is an important part of who we are today. May our lives be inspired by the faith and courage of those who have gone before us, as together we...

Celebrate!!

Sincerely,
Valerie E. Washington
Executive Director
